Set up and Sound Adjustment workshop with Andrea Ortona

Past 6th to 12th of March we did the Set up and Sound Adjustment workshop with Andrea Ortona. Andrea nowadays works at J&A Beares as a restorer and also works in his Oxford workshop making violins.

During the week the BELE students learnt about, materials, shapes, vibrating modes and sound. They worked on some violins and cellos, and had the oportunity to listen to them, thanks to Roki and Esther Conde, teachers at the conservatoire. These two ladies patiently played the instruments while they were being set step by step.

The weekend, from Friday to Sunday the workshop was aimed to proffesional makers. They did hard work on the instruments they brought. Here it was the great Fernando Fernandez who tested the instruments with his supreme playing.

And as it is our custom in BELE, we finished the workshop having lunch all together with a paella cooked by our chef Javier Guraya.

The Canadian firm Arbutus sent us some of their tailpiece samples, with an adjustable mass which we tried on some of the instruments.
